Pike Place Market
Between First Ave & Western Ave
Tel: 206-682-7453
The history of Pike Place Market is as rich and colorful as Seattle itself. Its nine acres and 100 years of operation encompass thousands of unique and interesting stories — stories of immigration, internment, gentrification and urban renewal — that explain why Pike Place Market is called “The Soul of Seattle.”

Pike Place Market is internationally recognized as America’s premier farmers’ market and is home to nearly 200 year-round commercial businesses; 190 craftspeople and 120 farmers who rent table space by the day; 240 street performers and musicians; and 300 apartment units, most of which house low-income elderly people. “The Market,” as the locals affectionately say, attracts 10 million visitors a year, making it one of Washington’s most frequently visited destinations.

Here are just some of the shops in Pike Place Market:

When you think of touring our fair city, why not start off with Pioneer Square?
It is after all, Seattle’s very first neighborhood. It’s really just a matter of how you wish to see it. A guided walking tour; horse drawn buggy, view from the ferries, or maybe explore on your own—what ever you choose, you’re sure to find it a charming world like no other. Situated between downtown and the stadiums, the International District and the waterfront, Pioneer Square enjoys a central location, easily accessible by foot, bus, trolley, car, commuter rail, train, or ferry. Landmark destinations abound in the twenty blocks that comprise Pioneer Square. Pioneer Square boasts the country’s largest concentration of Victorian-Romanesque architecture.
Walking Tours
Show yourself around. Walk along tree-lined streets and marvel at ornate, Victorian-style brick and stone buildings. Learn more about the booming Gold Rush years, the birth of Vaudeville, and the impact of titans and tightwads on the city. Take time to relax in a sidewalk café or urban park as you explore one of the nation’s largest designated historic districts.

Each of the self-tours begin and end in Occidental Park. We would highly recommend that you pick up a copy of our booklet “Pioneer Square Journey” which includes captions about related people, events and places for over 60 sites. You can pick this up at the kiosk on Occidental, between Main St. and Jackson, or at The Pioneer Square Community Association at 202 Yesler Way in the Smith Tower.

Chateau Ste. Michel
1411 NE 145th Street
Woodinville, WA

www.ste-michelle.com
Chateau Ste. Michelle is located 15 miles northeast of Seattle in Woodinville, Washington.

(This is the winery featured in the Seattle episode)
Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington state with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The winery’s roots date back to after the Repeal of Prohibition, when the Pommerelle Wine Company and the National Wine Company were formed in 1934. They merged in 1954 to form American Wine Growers and produced mostly fortified sweet wines. In 1967, American Wine Growers began a new line of premium vinifera wines called “Ste. Michelle Vintners” under the direction of legendary California winemaker and consultant Andre Tchelistcheff. Ste. Michelle Vintners planted its first vines at its Cold Creek Vineyard in Eastern Washington in 1972. Cold Creek Vineyard remains one of the oldest and most renowned vineyards in the state.

In 1976 Ste. Michelle Vintners built a French style Chateau in Woodinville, outside of Seattle, and changed its name to Chateau Ste. Michelle to reflect its new facility. The winery was built on the 1912 estate owned by Seattle lumber baron Frederick Stimson. The original Stimson family residence still stands on the winery grounds today and is on the National Register of Historical Places.
